Wales Care Awards 2016 - team members shortlisted for national awards

Following all the nominations Integra received for the Wales Care Awards, we are delighted to announce that two members of staff have been shortlisted for awards nationally. The ceremony will be on the 21st of October and Integra has representatives in the following two categories:

  • Nurse of the year – Angela Rees
  • Outstanding Services – Celia Callaghan

This will be the third year Integra's staff have received national awards – previously in the “manager of the year” and “excellence in mental health” care categories.

It is particularly pleasing to see Celia recognised in this way as the Outstanding Service award is open to all individuals working in care in Wales and therefore even more competitive as a category.

Celia said: “I was surprised and very proud to be shortlisted for the Wales Care Award. But when people say to me that I give such a lot to other people I don’t see it that way.

“When you do something day in and day out you really don’t expect a reward for it.

“Caring for people is what I’ve done all my life and is just second nature to me. My late stepmother suffered from dementia so I helped my dad with her, cooking meals for them and doing the shopping.

“I’m looking forward very much to going to the presentation evening in Cardiff and will be going there with my son Simon and colleagues celebrating with me from Integra.”

In her award nomination a senior colleague praises Celia for her “commitment, compassion and unwavering dedication”, adding that she is “never anything other than happy, pleasant and always a joy to work with.”

Peter Max, Managing Director of Integra, also paid tribute to Celia saying “Celia’s award for Outstanding Service recognises her total commitment to helping everyone to make the most of their potential.  We are delighted for her and the wider reflection of the Ty Nant team’s success in supporting the rehabilitation of our clients”

Mario Kreft MBE, the Chair of Care Forum Wales, said the Wales Care Awards had gone from strength to strength and that “The event is now firmly established as one of the highlights in the Welsh social care calendar.

“The aim is to recognise the unstinting and often remarkable dedication of our unsung heroes and heroines across Wales.

“The care sector is full of wonderful people because it’s not just a job it’s a vocation – these are the people who really do have the X Factor."

An article in the Rhondda Cynon Taff Gazette shares more about Celia's story and her dedication and commitment to care - at work and at home.
